The Gift that Gives All Day Long!

Searching for the perfect gift for the person who has everything (or want a certificate to show your friends)? For $30 you can feed Lottie, Minnie, Ronnie, Debbie, Frieda, Liz, Billie, Tarra, Shirley, Sissy, Winkie, Dulary, Misty, Tange or Flora, "In Barbara's, Lota's, Tina's, Jenny's, Queenie's, Zula's, Bunny's or Delhi's Memory." for one day. For $60 you can feed two of them; and for $540 you can feed all seventeen for a day. Or you may choose to feed one elephant for several days.

The recipient will receive a picture and biography of the elephant(s) chosen, along with a certificate and a full year's membership, making this gift a great way to educate friends and family about everyone's role in helping needy elephants.

To give this gift quickly, call the Sanctuary at (931) 796-6500. Say, "I want to feed an elephant for a day!" Be prepared to indicate which elephant(s) you want to feed, the amount of the gift ($30, $60, etc.), and who the recipient will be. You will need to give the complete name and address of the recipient as well as your name and address as the gift-giver.

How Much Food does an Elephant Eat?

Asian elephants are grazers (Africans are browsers). A full-grown Asian elephant eats approximately 150-200 pounds of food and drinks 30-50 gallons of water every day. Both Asian and African elephants will walk 30 to 50 miles daily in search of food, water, and preferred climate.

As you can see, elephants consume a large volume of food, but they only utilize 48% of their diet. This is what makes elephant manure some of the best around. At The Elephant Sanctuary, the manure is put into a manure spreader and towed behind a tractor. The manure spreader is designed to break up the manure into small pieces and spread it onto the pastures to fertilize the soil.
